Arsenal wonderkid Max Dowman is championed in Parliament

Arsenal teenage star Max Dowman has gone down in Parliament’s records after Jeremy Corbyn put down a Commons motion on the club clinching the Premier League title.

The MP for Islington North also named Martin Odegaard, praising his captaincy of the team.

Wearing an Arsenal top in a video for The Standard, Mr Corbyn said: “Here we are. We’ve won!”

The former Labour leader explained that his Early Day Motion was to celebrate the “fantastic achievement” of the Arsenal team and all the staff at the club, and to “commemorate the wonderful occasion we had outside the stadium when thousands and thousands of people were there”.

His motion states: “This House extends its warmest congratulations to Arsenal Football Club for winning the Premier League after 22 years and celebrates the incredible contribution made by every player in the team.

“It commends the captaincy and leadership of Martin Odegaard and further celebrates Max Dowman as the youngest person ever to win the Premier League.”

Midfielder Dowman has already broken a string of records in his short football career.

On the final day of the Premier League on Sunday he will be 16 years and 144 days old, and the youngest player to achieve the title success.

The previous holder of this record was Manchester City’s Phil Foden who was 17 years and 350 days when he won the first of six league titles in 2017-18.

Dowman became the youngest player in Premier League history when he made his senior debut in August 2025, aged 15 years and 235 days.

He became the Champions League's youngest player at 15 years and 308 days in November 2025..

He is also the Premier League's youngest scorer, at 16 years and 73 days, when he got a late goal in Arsenal’s 2-0 victory at home against Everton in March.

True to his Labour values, Mr Corbyn also highlighted the role of cleaners, caterers and backroom staff who contributed to the north London club’s success.

“This House recognises the work that goes on behind the scenes by cleaning staff, coaches, caterers, kit managers, both present and former, and all those who made this possible,” his motion highlights.

“It applauds the support of Arsenal fans across the city and country and thanks the work of Arsenal In the Community in delivering social and education programmes to young people.”

Looking to the future, the EDM continues: “ This House wishes the team success in the Champions League final, further congratulates Arsenal Women’s Football Club for their historic victory in this year’s FIFA Women's Champions Cup and acknowledges what an unbelievable achievement this is for everyone involved at Arsenal Football Club.”

EDMs are used by MPs to raise issues in the Commons and Mr Corbyn tabled one on Arsenal 22 years ago when it last won the league.

At Prime Minister’s Questions on Wednesday, Arsenal fan Sir Keir Starmer also raised the title victory.

Asked if Sir Keir and he might lift the trophy in celebration, Mr Corbyn told the BBC: "Well I think he goes to a box in the stadium, and I don’t, so that might be a bit of a problem.“

With The Prime Minister fighting for his political life, as he is threatened by a Labour coup to oust him from No10, he added: “I think Keir has got a few other issues to deal with, like Andy Burnham, Wes Streeting, Angela Rayner and a few others."
