Manchester United staff predict Kobbie Mainoo’s future after Ruben Amorim ex

Kobbie Mainoo’s future has been up in the air for much of this season, but Ruben Amorim’s exit could be a significant turning point.

Throughout the 2025/26 campaign, Amorim consistently favoured a midfield pairing of Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes, which left Mainoo with few chances to impress.

This lack of game time led to speculation about a possible loan move to Napoli for the remainder of the season.

But with United making the call to part ways with Amorim, Darren Fletcher has stepped in as interim manager and is expected to bring back a 4-3-3 formation.

Mainoo is coming back from injury at just the right moment to push for his spot in United’s starting lineup again.

Kobbie Mainoo could be given more opportunities at Man United under Darren Fletcher

Amorim had stood by Mainoo following his brother’s T-shirt incident at Old Trafford, and the Portuguese coach was clear in his intentions to keep the 20-year-old involved in the squad. But despite those words, Mainoo saw limited action, playing just 212 Premier League minutes in 2025/26 up to that point.

Team Talk reported that Amorim’s departure migh

t help open a path back into the starting XI for Mainoo and potentially make him a key part of the club’s long-term plans.

Mainoo is returning from injury at an ideal time to possibly work his way back into the lineup. He has come through every test so far with little noise, but now he needs to show why fans were right to stand by him during his absence from the first team.

Mainoo may be given a chance to start against Burnley

Darren Fletcher is expected to address the media on Tuesday afternoon, with questions likely about how he sees Mainoo fitting into his plans.

Assuming Mainoo has fully recovered from his injury, he could be in line for his first Premier League start of the campaign when United visit Turf Moor on Wednesday.

Burnley are struggling near the foot of the table, and there will be plenty of focus on what formation Fletcher chooses and who gets the nod in midfield.

Fletcher also has both of his sons, Tyler and Jack, available for selection in what is set to be his first game as United head coach.
