Jadon Sancho handed 'golden' transfer opportunity as fresh Man Utd exit route emerges
Borussia Dortmund are reportedly eyeing up a move to bring Manchester United forward Jadon Sancho back to the club for a third stint. That's following his ongoing loan spell at Premier League side Aston Villa.
Sancho, 25, has yet to make an impact at Villa Park, failing to score or assist in eight appearances so far under Unai Emery since his season-long loan move this summer. With no long-term future at United and no obligation for Villa to buy him at the end of the season, Sancho is free to choose his next destination.
As per BILD, Dortmund have emerged as a potential suitor for Sancho, and are keeping tabs on a possible return next summer. It's suggested that this could be a 'golden opportunity' for the Bundesliga outfit to snap up Sancho, who was 'already a hot topic of discussion' in Dortmund last summer, for a bargain price.
It's understood that Sancho recognises a return to Dortmund could be his 'last sporting chance to save his career and get it back on track', after a challenging four-and-a-half years at United.
Sancho had a successful four-year stint with Dortmund between 2017 and 2021, netting 50 goals and providing 64 assists in 137 games. However, he opted to leave Signal Iduna Park for a £73million move to United in July 2021.
Sancho's time at United has been a rollercoaster, with just 12 goals and six assists in his first two seasons. After his public spat with Erik ten Hag, he opted to return to Dortmund for the latter half of the 2023/2024 season.
Back in Dortmund, Sancho made an immediate impact, helping Edin Terzic's squad to reach the Champions League final at Wembley. However, they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid.
Upon his return to United in the summer of 2024, he was welcomed back into Ten Hag's squad and even featured in the Community Shield against Manchester City. However, this turned out to be his last appearance for the team before he signed for Enzo Maresca's Chelsea on a season-long loan.
His performance at Stamford Bridge was inconsistent, though, scoring a modest five goals and providing 10 assists in 41 appearances. That's as Chelsea finished fourth in the Premier League and clinched the Conference League.
After returning to United, Sancho found himself in the 'bomb squad' alongside Marcus Rashford, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho and Tyrell Malacia, after expressing his wish to leave the club. Rumours linked Sancho with a move to Serie A throughout most of the summer months, until Villa swooped in and secured his signature, with Emery's side securing his services until the end of the season.
