I absolultely loved working on this film with John Emerson Moore and TJ Martin. It turned out that John and I love the same bands and the guys really had a clear idea of the type of musical landscape they wanted for the film.

The cinematography is absolutely stunning and made my job so much easier as everything i needed was there on screen - the instrumental colors directly reflect the colors used in the cinematography.

Crispin Glover is fantastic to watch and leads a very strong cast.

We recorded the score in Hollywood with some of my favorite string playing friends, lead by my dear friend Anna Kostyuchek.

The Vola da Gamba features heavily in the score and it is played to perfection by Denise Briese who also plays bass on the score.

The haunting bass flute solos are the work of the magnificent Robert Shulgold with scratchy Appalachian-style violin playing by James Sitterly (incidentally I made poor Sitterly play "out of tune" and de-tune the strings on his violin for "authenticity"... sorry Jim!).

The choir on the score is a chorus of young singers from Carlow, Ireland called ASPIRO and is under the expert direction of Mary Amond O'Brien.

The recording sessions in Ireland were produced by my dear friend Ollie Hennessy.

The Hole Named Best 3D Film At Venice Festival

The Hole is a film by Joe Dante that I was lucky enough to get to orchestrate during the summer.

The score was composed by Javier Navarette (of "Pan's Labyrinth") and was - as ever with Javier - like diving into a musical treasure chest.

Joe Dante directed one of my favorite childhood films - "Gremlins" so I was reasonably star-struck on meeting him (It's "GREMLINS" c'mon!!!) and impressed by how much he really knows his music.

His former musical collaborator was the legendary Jerry Goldsmith - by whose passing we are left much the poorer - and artistically, it makes complete sense that he would choose to work with Javier Navarrete.

Congratulations on the win!
